    Free Webinar: What Interpreters Need to Know about the ADA


    The Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) presents the following training opportunity:

    What Interpreters Need to Know about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    *Free CEUs (Ethics and Interpreting)

    Free CEUs: .3 DHHS BEI CEUs (Ethics/Interpreting) are approved. CEUs provided are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) CEUs and are recognized and accepted by the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) as CEUs for BEI certified interpreters.  To earn CEUs each individual must be logged into the webinar system and participate in the interactive session, as well as complete a pre-test and a post-test.  For those viewing in a group, please contact dhhs.webinar@hhsc.state.tx....us for further instructions.

    If you need RID CEUs, contact an RID CEU provider in advance of the session to request PINRA approval to earn CEUs.

    Participants will be able to:
    – describe the basic requirements of the ADA regarding communication access for persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing
    – clarify common misconceptions regarding the ADA and how it applies to sign language interpreters
    – utilize strategies to educate consumers and refer to appropriate resources within the role of an interpreter

    The training will be presented in American Sign Language; voice interpreters will be provided. To request other auxiliary aids or services necessary for effective communication, please contact dhhs.webinar@hhsc.state.tx.us.
