Mark your calendars for the San Antonio Independent Living Services’ (SAILS) upcoming 26th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Taking place on Saturday, July 23rd this year’s event theme is ‘Activate and Celebrate Your Abilities’. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The University of Texas San Antonio downtown campus’ Bill Miller Plaza (501 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd).
The celebration will feature a pep rally, exhibitions by more than 50 community resource organizations and awards will be given to outstanding members of the community. This year’s highlighted keynote speaker is JoAnne Fluke, a member of the Rehabilitation Council of Texas. Senator Jose Menendez will also be in attendance, receiving the prestigious award of Public Servant of the Year.
Signed into law in 1990, the ADA was the most sweeping legislation to support disabled people gain equality in American history and has improved the lives of millions of people around the country. DIS is proud to be a sponsor of the event.
