Marilyn L. Weber is President/CEO
of Deaf Interpreter Services, Inc. (DIS) headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. As a Certified
Sign Language Interpreter and the mother of an adult deaf daughter,
Marilyn has been working for more than 20 years promoting accessible
communication and advocating for the rights of the Deaf Community.
She has interpreted in hundreds of professional situations
and conducts Deaf Awareness Workshops, Cultural Diversity Training, and
does ADA Compliance Consulting. She prides herself on her
reputation not only in the Deaf Community, but also with the Business
Community. She has over 1000 hours of related professional training,
and has worked with autistic children, individuals with Downs Syndrome
and Cerebral Palsy.
She has received several awards from various organizations recognizing
her work and dedication to the Deaf Community. Most recently
she went to New York City to accept the ‘National Innovation
Award’ given by the Women President’s Organization
(WPO), and was a finalist for the ‘2008 Business Ethics
Award’ given by the UTSA School of Business along with the
Ecumenical Center and the San Antonio Business Journal.
Marilyn attended UC Riverside where she was accepted into the Bio
Medical program. After the birth of her daughter, she left
UCR to focus on her daughter’s needs. Upon returning to
college, Marilyn studied pharmacy and graduated from California
Paramedical and Technical College as Salutatorian where her thesis
paper was on “Testing and Treating Hearing Loss in
Children”.
She served on the North East ISD Special Ed. Advisory Committee for
four years and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the San
Antonio College Interpreter Training Program. She is a member
of Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID), Registry of
Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
and Texas Association of the Deaf (TAD).

John is Vice President of
Operations for Deaf
Interpreter Services, Inc., responsible for risk management,
technology,
business operations and consulting. John is a Certified Fraud Examiner
(CFE)
and was elected to the Board of Regents for the Association of
Certified
Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and received their “Outstanding
Achievement in
Government Award” for 2003. He
is featured in their “Effective Communications
Video”.
As a member of ASIS he earned the Certified Protection Professional
(CPP)
designation-Board Certified in Security Management and was co-winner of
their “Excellence in Performance Management” award
for 2002.
John is a graduate of St. John Fisher College with a Bachelors degree
in
communications / sociology, California State University with a Masters
degree in social science / criminal justice, and San Antonio College
Law
Enforcement Training Center where he received his license as a Texas
Peace
Officer.

H. Sumner Bowen

H. Sumner Bowen Sr. is a
prominent resident of the New Braunfels Area. He is the principal of
Communication Professionals Ltd. amongst others, does
telecommunications consulting, and is the owner of numerous business
and rental properties. He is a member of the Main Street Partners
and Main Street Advisory and former Chief of the Comal County
Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division and Central Regional
Commander for the Texas Narcotics Control Program. He is currently a
licensed Peace Officer in Texas. Sumner is also the past president
of the United Way of Comal County and the Comal County Republican Men's Club. Mr. Bowen
is a graduate of Rice University.

Barwise

Brian
Barwise is a Faculty member of San Antonio College, in
the Department of American Sign Language/Interpreter Training Program.
He
was the Valedictorian at Texas School for the Deaf, and received his
Bachelors degree from Gallaudet University in Television, Film, and
Photography. In 1988, he was an active participant in the "Deaf
President Now" movement at Gallaudet. Brian, a Certified Deaf
Interpreter (CDI), also has extensive experience as a Deaf Support
Specialist, and working with specialized telecommunications. |

Cantu is an educational standout with a Bachelor's degree in Acounting
from Gallaudet University, and an All-Level Teaching Certificate for
the Hearing Impaired from Trinity University. Donna is skilled at
developing and implementing educational and practical living programs
for the Deaf, and highly experienced in Technology and Communication
Techniques. |

Jan
Longfellow brings extensive educational experience to the Board, having
previously served as a Program Coordinator for the North East
Independent School Disctrict - Dept. of Special Education Program for
the Deeaf/Hard of Hearing, and Regional Day School Program for the
Deaf. Jan's educational background includes a Bachelors degree from
Trinity University in Education of the Deaf and a Masters Degree from
the University of Texas, San Antonio. She currently is an educational
consultant for numerous school districts, and holds many teaching
certifications and endorsements. |

Ronald K.
Carson II, a marketing "guru" and a former Vice President and Partner
of the Nellson Agency in New York, is currently the
Channel Sales Manager for Pharos Systems International. Ron is on the
Board of Directors for the Association of Directory Marketing, on their
Executive Committee, and serves as their Treasurer. Ron is a graduate
of Rochester Institute of Technology. |

Marion T. Carson

Judge
Carson has been a Municipal Court Judge
since 1984 and runs his own private practice. Judge Carson is a
graduate
of St. Mary's University and obtained his law degree from St. Mary's
University School of Law. Judge Carson, who lost his hearing in an
accident, uses captioning (CART) services, interpreters and uses
computer based software to facilitate communication while on the bench.
An accomplished individual, Judge Carson has
served as a litigator,
counselor and civic speaker. In 2009, he was the recipient of Deaf Interpreter Services' "Outstanding Achievement Award". He has been a gubernatorial appointee,
served
on multiple planning councils, written various charters, and is a
Director
Emeritus of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (rodeo). Judge Carson
is
also licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas and three
Federal Courts.

Felix Aguilar

Dr. Aguilar is currently a Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer
of the
South Central Family Health Center in Los Angeles, California, and
provides
medical services to indigent patients. He has earned a Bachelor of
Science
in Biology, Masters of Public Health, and a Medical Doctorate. Dr.
Aguilar
currently holds memberships at the Fellowship of American Academy of
Family
Practice, and Fellowship of American College of Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Aguilar is with the Advisory Board, providing
consultation on
strategic direction for the future of DIS.
